Bhagawat Gita Typing Game

'Bhagawat Gita' (also 'Bhagavad Gita') is the holy sacred book of the Hindus. The verses or shlokas are written in Sanskrit language which is the oldest classical language from India. However, this language is not popular among common folks. So learning the sacred verses is quite hard. Yet, this holy scripture has something to offer to us in the 21st century. It is considered an influential management book by many leaders. So I was wondering on how to make it interesting for younger generation to engage in learning of this holy book. Then I hit upon an idea to gamify learning of these verses. How about a game of typing but the text are the English transliterated Sanskrit verses from the Gita. I developed "Bhagavad Gita Typing Game" as a web app to enable wide reach across device types (desktop, mobile, tablet) yet be OS agnostic. I attended a few sessions on Tree Identification during different seasons organised by Natural History Society of Northumbria ( NHSN ). Adhika masa and Kshaya masa

This article is regarding the concept of Adhikamasa and Kshayamasa (intercalary months) used in some luni-solar calendars in India. Luni-solar calendars are in vogue since lunar months determine the high and low tides while the solar year determines the seasons. But the use of luni-solar calendars create a unique problem. Since the lunar year (12 lunar months) lags behind the solar year (~365.25 days), this creates a need to keep the lunar year and the solar year in synchrony. Hence the need to use Adhika masa (extra month) and Kshaya masa (removed month)! The reason for their asynchrony is explained next.

I recently watched the movie 'Stanley ka Dabba' (SKD) and here is my review of the movie. In short, SKD is a finely made film highlighting an important social issue and the movie succeeds in doing just that and it does smartly as well. This aspect is very important in a country like ours where pertinent issues like corruption, policy reforms are high jacked in a jiffy by things like IPL or 'Shiela ki jawani' song.

I had come across this forward message that made tall claims for hanuman chalisa. The forward read as follows: Any one knows the Hanuman chalisa? In Hanuman Chalisa, it is said : "Yug sahastra yojan per Bhanu! Leelyo taahi madhur phal janu!!" 1 Yug = 12000 years 1 Sahastra = 1000 1 Yojan = 8 Miles Yug x Sahastra x Yojan = par Bhanu 12000 x 1000 x 8 miles = 96000000 miles 1 mile = 1.6km 96000000 miles = 96000000 x 1.6km = 1536000000 km to Sun NASA has said that, it is the exact distance between Earth and Sun (Bhanu). Bee hive removal is not pest control

In Bangalore people are increasingly engaging pest control folks for removal of bee hive. But they go about performing hive removal in a non-traditional way with the use of heavy chemicals which on one hand kill the bees instantly (rendering the honey useless!) but also affect people, children and the surroundings.
