Decadence of Indian Democracy
Everyone of us at some point or the other has resented the state of our nation. More so in the recent years, with all the scams that are exposed and coming to the public domain...! (thanks to RTI in part)
Starting with the 2G spectrum scam (1.76 lakh crore) .. thanks to former Telecom minister A.Raja (now a resident of Tihar jail.. not for long); many more culprits are yet to come to book.. and all we are doing is to hope that they will..! Then the latest ISRO-Antrix-Devas deal (presumptive losses of 2 lakh crore).. All of these have highlighted just one issue.. How Corrupt our Legislative really is?
IPL fiasco with the now absconding former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, (calling this government the most corrupt in the history of India), Or the pride (or shame) of our nation the "Common Wealth Games 2010" imbroglio all thanks due to the Powerful (or do we call him bloody fool) Suresh Kalmadi.. All these events have left the entire sports fraternity in utter disappointment..! It is not an easy job to practice daily for 8 hours (at the least) for 10 - 12 years (or more) to achieve a gold medal performance in the Olympics.. Imagine what might be the motivating factor for our sports person after they hear about all these?
The "Adarsh Housing Society scam" involving the defense personnel who we keep in high regard.. Just imagine the soldier who signs up to fight for the nation not bothering about his family.. what will be going through his mind.! Am I really doing the right thing..! Why should I sacrifice my life for this nation.. who have lost all integrity..!
Forget the lakhs of crores of rupees.. billions of dollars in black money, amassed by these people lying safely in the safe havens (heavens for them.. not for us)..! What is the government doing about all this.. thats right.. defending it.. giving all sorts of reasons for it..!
The last resort was the judiciary.. with the recent allegations against the ex-CJI of India Justice Balakrishnan.. now what is left to say... All hope seems to have failed.. Scamsters have not left any area untouched... be it the executive, legislative, or the judiciary.. All forms have reduced to shame..!
Is there nothing that we can do to change this...? Not Quite..!
I recently read a short story.. I wish to share it with you all.. Here it is.

An old man lived alone in Minnesota. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, who would have helped him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:
Dear Son,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren't in prison.
Love, Dad
Shortly, the old man received this telegram: "For Heaven's sake, Dad, don't dig up the garden!! That's where I buried the GUNS!!"
At 4 a.m. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asked him what to do next.
His son's reply was: "Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad.. It's the best I could do for you from here."
Moral of the story:
No matter where you are in the world, if you have decided to do something deep from your heart you can do it. It is the thought that matters not where you are or where the person is.

ReplyDeletepradeep, there is no use of thinking about all these now... but the only thing we can think or do is - what should we do....the least one we can do is, we can be honest and truthful....if everyone does it, then things can be turned around
Many countries face this issue.. Some have successfully turned it around.. like for e.g. Hong Kong. I am not aware of any country which has resorted to "lets us be true" tactic. This strategy though nice on paper but it does not work in reality..
